João Castilho é artista visual. Realizou exposições individuais na Zipper Galeria (SP), na 1500 Gallery (NY), na Galeria Celma Albuquerque (BH), no Museu de Arte da Pampulha (MG), na Fundação Joaquim Nabuco (PE), dentre outras.Participa regularmente de coletivas no Brasil e no exterior, como Elóge du Vertige, Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris (2012); Mythologies, Shiseido Gallery, Tóquio (2012); Encubrimientos, Photoespaña, Madri (2010); Rumos Artes Visuais, Itaú Cultural SP (2012), dentre outras. Ganhou os prêmios Ibram de Arte Contemporânea (2012), Projets de Création Artistique (2011), Marc Ferrez de Fotografia (2010), ConradoWessel de Arte (2008). Publicou os livros Pulsão Escópica (2012), Peso Morto (2010) e Paisagem Submersa (2008). Tem obras nos acervos do MAM-São Paulo, MAM-Bahia, do Musée du Quai Branly Paris, no Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, dentre outros. É representado por Galeria Celma Albuquerque (MG) e Zipper Galeria (SP). É mestre em Artes Visuais pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG).

His works integrate the collections of noteworthy venues, such as the Museums of Modern Art of São Paulo and Salvador (Brazil), the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris (France), and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography (Japan).
